There is a multitude of ways to decorate or redecorate your home for the fall and winter months. Whether you plot on restyling your entire home, or simply adding a few fall touches, here are some fantastic decorating thoughts for this fall.

The main thing to remember with fall decorations is that fall is all about the simplicity of nature, so any added earthly aspects are sure to make your home feel cozy this season.

First of all, let me acknowledge that it is okay to have dread and be a scaredy-cat. Hey, if it wasn’t for dread we would simple place our hands on a hot stove. The key is to face the dread and be proactive (um, like NOT touching the flames on your stove – ouchie!) by moving forward with comfort. Are you procrastinating from decorating your home to reflect your comfort and style? If so, what is stopping you from decorating your home to “fit” your comfort?  Is it not enough time? money? knowledge? tired when you get home? The answer – you are! You are what is stopping you from living better in your home.  My philosophy is that you obtain comfort at home from a physical (balanced furniture placement & color schemes) and mental state of relaxation (believing that you deserve to live fantastic)  - and not from expensive furniture.  You and only you have the power to do something about the comfort of your room(s). Even if you do not live alone, you can be the motivator in your household for improving your home, while making it FUN and moving FORWARD!

So how do you go forward? It’s simple – reckon of the letters F-O-R-W-A-R-D, here’s the guide:

F-ind time and make a choice to like living and enjoying your home O-rganize your items  by what you like/do not like or want/do not want R-emove all excuses of why you can’t or shouldn’t treat yourself to living in comfort W-elcome input of others, but keep the eye on the prize YOUR immediate household’s comfortA-rrange your home life to reflect your personality & the lifestyle that you WANT (not the lifestyle you currently have, reach for more luxury) R-emember your ultimate goal (e.g.: fun living room to invite friends over, kitchen to accommodate dinner parties, bedroom to relax and read, etc).D-esign a plot for decorating your home that matches your heart

Here are a few inspirational quotes to remind you to live pleased within your home and your “self”:  ”Success is a journey, not a destination” – Arthur Robert Ashe, Jr. (prominent tennis player)

“the greatest motivator for me was getting started.” – V.S. Naipul (nobel prize winner)

“Creativity requires the courage to let go of certain certainties” – Erich Fromm (renowned psychologist)

How dull (and quite “twilight zone” weird) would it be if you had the same exact décor 10 years from now? Same wall colors, same toss pillows on your sofa, same artwork. Hmm, a bit dull (zzzzzz) to you and your guests, huh?!

So don’t be worried to buy a particular framed art that you like NOW, and it may become a perfect gift that you pass on to someone you like in 3 years from now.  As your comfort level, tastes, and style grows so should your home – to reflect your life  - a successful journey living your life to the fullest potential of your current style, tastes, and preferences.

Now this doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot of money on furniture, it means that you decorate your home following your heart’s inner desire:

Make a choice to improve your home and get started (go F-O-R-W-A-R-D)! Give yourself a wishful deadline to energize yourself.  Maybe even plot a dinner party with the goal that you will have a new improved home to showcase at your dinner party.  When you start feeling a dread that you may make decorating mistakes:

So, take charge and be a tiger/tigress RAAAR (<- that is my tigress sound effect) and decorate your home to reflect YOU! Feel pleased at home, and within your"self".

Over 80 million people in the United States currently suffer from acid reflux. It is a serious condition in which the gastric acid flows back from the stomach into the upper intestines and esophagus. It can hurt the esophagus and cause extreme pain to the sufferer. Fortunately, there have been many developments in the treatment of acid reflux. Prescription medications are often able to control the symptoms. But, many people are still suffering at night while lying in bed. When lying flat, the gastric acid in the stomach flows more easily into the esophagus. This acid doesn’t have to fight with gravity, and this is why the pain is often intensified at night. Doctors recommend sleeping at an incline to help prevent this nighttime pain caused by acid reflux. Positional therapy, as it is more often known, is used to control the symptoms of acid reflux. When the head and shoulders are elevated, it is more hard for the acid to reach the esophagus. But, if this incline is not executed properly, additional pain of the lower back may be experienced.Luckily, there are many products that can help with attaining the right inclination. The most common is an acid reflux wedge pillow. An acid reflux wedge pillow is designed to position the patient in a way that elevates the head and neck just enough to keep stomach acid down without causing discomfort.Acid reflux pillows are available in several different materials, shapes, and sizes. Most commonly, foam pillows in wedged shapes are used. They can also be found in soft plastic or inflatable varieties. You can even find acid reflux pillows with allergen barriers for those who suffer from allergies. Look for a pillow that allows for adjustability. You want to be able to customize the pillow for your specific needs. One of the major benefits of using an acid reflux wedge pillow is that there are no risks or side effects. Prescription medication can often cause unwanted side effects or long-term complications. Although it may be necessary in some cases, if you want to try something else before taking that route, an acid reflux wedge pillow might do the trick. These special pillows are recommended by doctors around the country. They are a simple solution to a sometimes overwhelming pain. By simply elevating your upper body at the right angle, you will experience a significant reduction, or even disappearance of acid reflux pain. Sleeping in a new position may take some getting used to, but the comfort you’ll feel will be worth it. Sleeping through the night at a slight incline certainly seems better than lying flat all night, awake and in pain. A combination treatment of prescription medication, healthy lifestyle changes, and use of an acid reflux wedge pillow can certainly change your life forever. But, if you continue to experience severe symptoms, even after trying these treatments, contact your doctor immediately. This could be an indication of more serious problems.

Moroccan Home Décor is an increasingly well loved way for people of all cultures and backgrounds to transform their traditional living spaces into places that are full of warmth, depth and character. Often this style stands in stark contrast to the clean lines and sterile feel that accompanies the modern look. Every piece is made with its own unique attributes and form sometimes takes a front seat to function. There are very few straight lines and the overall feeling of a room is one that is soft. Broken lines and curves accentuate the warm colors and soft light to make a setting that not only invites one to sit, but also lean back and relax, place your feet up, and take a deep breath.
As mentioned above, one of the key attributes of Moroccan home décor is the absence of hard lines. Even in furniture, soft lines are the norm. Couch cushions, pillows, ottomans and poofs are crafted with soft, pliable corners that very rarely come to rest in a perfectly straight line. Pieces are often made in shapes other than squares and rectangles. Floor cushions may be round or oblong and even hard furniture like end tables will often be found in an octagonal or irregular shape. There is no absence of variety. With such a wide variety of shapes and structures and with no hard lines to draw the focus, each piece is allowed to speak for itself within the scope and attitude of the room.
Another key attribute of Moroccan home décor is the way that lighting is used. Very rarely will you find harsh or focused light. Instead, lighting is diffused so that it complements the living space, inviting people to slide into an area. Lighting is used to accentuate subtle features and is used to make an atmosphere of warmth. In the same way that the furniture itself is devoid of hard lines, so is the lighting. It is designed to fold softly into the room, sometimes through a colored shade. As the light through a colored and decorated shade is cast upon floor, ceiling and walls, it makes its own decorative features and often these plays on shadow are used themselves as decorative features within the overall scope of the room.
Soft, plush surfaces are also characteristic of Moroccan home décor. As with the lines and lighting, hard, stark surfaces are avoided. Even on flat surfaces, such as tabletops, the pattern is broken up with a cover or with a work of art that is really incorporated into the surface of the piece itself. The lack of stark surfaces makes an atmosphere in which one gets a sense of being enveloped. In direct opposition of a minimalist approach, which allows the people within the room to define its tenor, this type of styling invites those in the room to be absorbed into the feeling of the room. One can be absorbed into the soft feel and comfort of the room. This makes a space where people may feel free to let their guard down and become more personable. With the focus not on people, but instead on the overall atmosphere of the room, everyone is placed on a similar plane of existence. Excellent conversation is fostered by a sense of equality and egos and personal airs are absorbed by the décor that surrounds you.

Summer its on the way out—- The cool autumn winds along with the gorgeous colored leaves falling may start you yearning for a cozier warmer decor. Plus, we all know how quickly fall will turn into winter, with its cold and snowy forecast. Yes, it is certainly time to warm the place up
Early fall is the perfect time to start warming up your homes decor. With the holidays pending, and all the added hoopla that accompanies them, it’s wise to get started early. You might be surprised with just a few simple changes your home can become a warm and inviting atmosphere for your family and friends to delight in.
When it comes to making a home feel warm and cozy, all homes are not made equal? With the many styles of homes our there, the newer homes with their cavernous fantastic rooms, and vaulted ceilings are more challenging, and can pose problems when it comes to making them feel warm and cozy.
To get started, divide the room into several smaller groupings, using furniture groupings to make areas inviting, and geared to a given purpose, such as an area in front of a fireplace, to sit and delight in conversation, along with the warm fire. Another fantastic area grouping, add a book shelve to a corner along with comfy chair for read a excellent book. Also, perhaps an area with a small game table, and a few high backed chairs, for having a challenging game of chess.
Wall color in a room can make all the difference. Darker colors tend to warm up a lager room. Wall paper with larger patterns will also make the room take on a warmer feeling. Moldings should be substantial, and a bit ornate, this will give the elusion that the ceiling is lower, and also adds a very well built sturdiness to a home.
Furniture should be large, small pieces will take on a dwarf out of place look in a large room. Use wonderful upholstered sofas and chairs, covered heavy tapestries, velvets or other heavy fabrics. When it comes to wood, I am an advocate of mixing wood tones. In a larger room if you choose to use glass tables, please make sure they are large, and incorporate ornate wood in there design. The same with the use of mirrors; make sure they have an fascinating wood used in the design, and that they are again large and give the elution of heaviness. Include tall bookcases or entertainment centers. These pieces are not only useful to store electronic components, but will add charm to the room.
The larger spaces like accessories and plants. Large spaces will accommodate the wonderful larger pieces of art, along with the larger nick narks. Potted trees and plants are also a must. For scale, when choosing plants and trees make sure to match the scale of a tall ceiling.
Another wonderful tip to make that large room take on a cozier feel, make small room dividers. This can be done by using larger pieces, such as book shelves, screens, a grouping of plants. Experiment, you might be surprised at what allusions you can make.
Let us go on to homes that are more diverse in style. Homes that have rooms that are well separated, such as living room dinning room and such, these homes are somewhat simpler to deal with when it comes to making them warm and cozy for the winter months. Let’s start with throw pillows, and throws. Throw pillows and throws are an instant warmer upper. Just choose fabrics such as velvets, mohair or chenille, keep in the warm in tone. Also keep in mind the colors of your furniture when choosing. Before shopping consult a color wheel. A color wheel will provide you on just the right warm tones to match your furniture. Bring in some of the fall foliage, bitter sweet, pine cones in a bowl, use your imagination. Bare dried sticks can make a statement if done up in the right vase. Stack some logs by the fireplace in an oversized basket. When using a throw, make it a show piece, thrown just right over that comfy chair. Wonderful darker texture rugs are a must. Layering rugs is also a excellent way to add texture and warmth to a room, also if you have a wonderful rug that you feel is more than a rug hang it up and show it on just the right wall.
It’s always fantastic to change up drapes in the winter; darker heavy textured drapes will instance warmth. So you say your furniture is light, and just can’t pull off winter warmth with new pillows. Invest in slip covers. There are lovely slip covers out there.
If possible go that furniture around a bit. Get a chair or two closer to the fire side. Add a table with a excellent book, and some family photo’s. What could be greater than the fire and excellent memories of times gone by? Decrease glare, soften up your rooms lighting, iridescent bulbs are fantastic for this. Better yet bring in the candles. Candles in wonderful copper or brass holders will really add just the right flare, plus if the candles are a bit scented with vanilla, pine, spice, it will be oh so nice… Candles place near mirrors give a magical effect.
Having guests in for the holidays? Want to make it a visit they won’t soon forget? Pamper your holiday guests, make sure their linens and towels are fresh daily, and placed in their room. Don’t forget to splash linens and towels with a bit fragrance. Add to the night stand a basket of goodies, such as hand made soap, guest shampoos, talc, and use your imagination. Don’t forget to add a small edible goody each night, to send them off to sleep with a small sweet treat.
As you can see it really isn’t hard to add small inexpensive touches to your home. Look for touches that will not only warm up the decor, but warm the hearts of everyone that lives in or visits your home.

So what’s with all the travel pillows that are out these days? Have we become so bone idle that we can no longer hold our heads up without support? Yes, I do believe we have. Just cruise down the aircraft aisle next time you’re seated in 7E and need to reach the facilities behind 29F. Heads aren’t bobbing, no sir. The savvy traveler now has some kind of travel pillow to hold their head in place to avoid the “cart crash” or “window bounce” action. These small marvels come in all shapes and sizes, colors and textures. Some are those spongy things, some with small pellets and they even have the more inconspicuous less-space hogging blow up versions. Microfiber beads, cotton-poly blend, goose down, synthetic down, buckwheat and millet, there is a pillow out there for just about any taste. There are some travel pillows on the market for children that look like dogs, cats, lions, tigers and bears! Oh my! There is the double chambered or the massaging style and some even have small pouch to store I- don’t- know -what. Maybe you could tuck your chewing gum in there or something. Or perhaps your name and address so that your pillow can promptly be returned if lost. Personally, I don’t have one but probably should own one. There is nothing worse than the next seat cuddler. You know the type that falls asleep shortly after take-off and before the beverages are served; they already have their head bobbing forward. You’ve finally managed to squeeze your tray table down and suddenly the head lands on your shoulder. Look out, they’ve got you now. Before the flight attendant can serve your drink over the guy’s drooling droopy head, the arm and shoulder start to occupy your space and he looks like he’s on the verge of cuddling you like his long lost blankie. No one wants to be this guy, and no one wants to sit next to him. So it does make sense to have some kind of neck support to keep you from accidental seat spillage. Some aircraft have small neck support “wings” on the back of your seat that you can flip out to keep your head steady. I don’t know how many times I flew on this particular aircraft and never noticed these wonderful small in-seat options. They are fantastic, but certainly not like your very own tempur-pedic, hypoallergenic, memory foam pillow with the dust mite resistant velour cover in your choice of 9 colors with matching eye shades and blanket. Perhaps we will all eventually catch up on our much needed sleep thanks to these marvelous small travel pillows. If not, we can at least stop a cuddler or two on our next flight.

When budgets are getting tighter, decorating or updating your home may get place on the back burner. Luckily, there are lots of contests, sweepstakes, and giveaways out there that feature fabulous items to keep your home looking fresh and running strong. Though our tastes tend to be a bit too discerning for most of the décor items available in giveaways, there are plenty of gadgets that we’d welcome in our home (and some chic items if you look hard enough). And with entry forms now conveniently on the internet, a click of the mouse gives you a chance to win, making it simple to enter multiple contests without spending much time or money. But just because a product is free doesn’t mean it’s right for your home. Read on and see how to find the items you can really use.

GO FOR NO-FAIL PRIZESHome AppliancesWhile you might have to be a small picky about décor, newer technology is always welcome—especially when it’s free of cost. Unlike a particular accent rug that might not be right for every house and every person, appliances, which are chosen for function rather than form, are a fantastic option. Floor care items such as vacuum cleaners and carpet steamers, outdoor goods like lawn mowers and grills, and larger items like washers and dryers are all spectacular wins. When looking for prizes, try to enter sweepstakes for the items that you really need. Many of these products cost hundreds of dollars if not more—not having to buy them may free up some cash for you to splurge a small on décor that might not have been in your budget before.

Kitchen Goods Keep an eye out for any items for the kitchen. Smaller items like cutting boards, pots and pans, and handheld utensils may have fewer sweepstakes entries because they have a lower total value, which could increase your chances of winning. Or, look out for fun items you might not buy for yourself, like a margarita mixer, a cappuccino machine, or an ice cream maker. While they aren’t necessities, goods like these can be a fantastic addition to the kitchen and make entertaining more fun—just make sure you have ample counter or cabinet space.

ElectronicsA flat-screen TV, DVD player, high-quality sound system, or a new computer will fit right in, no matter what your style. Again, snagging these huge-ticket items for free may allow you to spend more money elsewhere, maybe even on a gorgeous armoire!

THE TIME TO BE PICKYConsider your existing décorWhen moving onto more stylized items like furnishings, pillows, rugs, draperies, or home accents, do a small editing. If your dining room is modern and contemporary, a sweepstakes for a chintzy floral tablecloth might not be your best bet. If you have a bedroom dominated in soft neutrals and warm earth tones, consider that color scheme when entering sweepstakes. An exception? Linens. Items like towels and sheets are going to come in handy when hosting guests even if they don’t match perfectly.

Select brands you knowWith home décor, always consider quality. If it seems like there’s a lot to navigate, look for names you know and retailers you trust. It’s hard to learn much from a small picture online or a small description, but if you’ve always been pleased with Lenox tableware or Ralph Lauren bedding, it’s likely that you will continue to be impressed. Similarly, look for smaller items from trustworthy brands rather than large pieces from ones you don’t know. These are the things that will last and continue to make you pleased for years, instead of ending up shoved in the back of a closet or taking up space in the attic.

Look where you readMany home design magazines and web sites sponsor their own giveaways and sweepstakes. These items are often from the same brands that are featured on the pages of these magazines or on their web sites, and reflect the design sensibility of the publication. So if you don’t know where to start, reckon of the decorating sites you like the best, and go there. It’s likely that their sweepstakes will be right on target with your personal style. Click on the link below for a list of our editorial giveaways.

DARE TO DREAMThere are dream house makeovers that offer winners the funds to redo their entire home or make their ideal haven. Sure it’s a long shot, but in this economy, it can’t hurt to try. And even if you don’t win, just thinking about your perfect house could inspire a few thoughts, and a lot of creativity, so when you do have the funds to do a small decorating, you’ll know exactly where to start.

Matching your area rug to your themed pieces giving you the home décor blues? Take charge and go solo to find the real you and the real room you’ve been searching for.
The vast array of home decorating products available to us today not only causes the issue of choosing which design, theme, fabric and brand are right for your home but also causes a lengthy list of other problems, including whether or not you can find all of the matching pieces to a set.
What do you do when your perfectly situated set was only missing one pillow and you were certain you’d find it at another store location only to find that particular pillow has been discontinued and now you have no pillows matching your perfectly themed room?
Any normal home decorator would curl up into a ball, sulk for days and then gloomily pack their expensive items into boxes to be stored in a dark corner and forgotten for the next ten years and hopefully forever, following up with an even gloomier trip to the department store to buy yet another expensive set, thus renewing the cycle of gloom and misery.
But not you. Armed with the right information, you’ll start a quest for “near match” that will not only bring your room together but will also make a sense of eclecticism that only you’ll be able to place your finger on.
The first thing you need to know about perfectly themed sets is that they are never perfect and of course, that stores will never order as many oriental area rugs as they do bed spreads and sheet sets. Why? Because unlike you, the general population is far less likely to buy an entire matched set-not even over the same six months-than they are to buy one piece of that matched set. Not to mention the fact that area rugs-whether they are wool area rugs or cotton area rugs, red area rugs or grey area rugs-are a huge investment for most people.
You’re likely up against a store setting where there are five bedspreads and sheet sets for every one area rug in the same theme.
What can you do to get around that problem? Well, you could always call every store in town from the originating location, making certain they have and are willing to hold your items so you can dash across town to retrieve them. Or, you can break away from the need to stick to a pre-packaged, branded theme.
The truth is that the best rooms don’t have to come straight from one designer’s workshop. You know what’s best for your home. All you have to do is keep a strict record of each of your buys-never ruin, lose or get rid of your receipts-pick up samples where possible, bring a sample of your area rug to choose pieces that will blend and balance your room and be ready to let some pieces go.
Remember, the journey to matching your area rugs and other themed products is only as long and as hard as the pavement you pound to get the pieces.

Sarah Crosset has worked in the decorating field for many years and her number one bedroom decorating tip is to buy area rugs; as they will instantly brighten a room. Try some flokati area rugs from www.HouseOfAreaRugs.com for instant toe appeal on those cold mornings.
